Gandaria is carrying out the expansion of the “Alsur” quinoa storage plant in Antequera, Spain.
The quinoa processing plant began operating in the summer of 2016, coinciding with the first harvest of this pseudocereal in the province. With an investment of over 3.5 million euros, it is one of the most modern quinoa processing plants in Europe.
According to Jose Jiménez, Manager of Alsur, the company expects to harvest between four and five million kilos of quinoa this year. In spite of the though rains of March and April, which drowned almost half of the fields, it has been a magnificent campaign, almost reaching 5,000 hectares of cultivated land. This has led the company to invest in the expansion of the facilities.
The expansion includes the construction of four new silos with a storage capacity of 1,000 tons of quinoa each: 10.70 m diameter silos, about 25 m high that will connect with the lines already installed in 2016 by chain conveyors. Unloading will be done by pneumatic transport to the factory where the quinoa is processed.
