The course is a unique academic initiative in Andalusia, both for its duration and program, and for the collaboration between university and business.

UCO and Gandaria have developed the Second Edition of the course “Introduction to Lean Management”, organized by the School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering (ETSIAM) and the Mechanical Polytechnic School of Córdoba (EPS).

The course offers the opportunity to receive a training in lean manufacturing, the leading philosophy in efficiency and competitiveness in management and production processes. This management philosophy, which is derived mostly from the Japanese Toyota Production System, is focused on developing a more efficient organisational culture, in order to increase responsiveness by reducing waste, costs and time.

It is a unique academic initiative in Andalusia, both for its duration and program, and for the collaboration between the two partners. The objective of this course is to provide students with the basic knowledge to participate in a Lean implementation process or to work in companies who utilises the Lean Manufacturing system.

“The implementation of the Lean methodology brings great benefits to companies interested in improving competitiveness,” explains the course director, Adolfo Peña. He adds that this course deepens the knowledge of the lean organisational culture, utilising its main tools and analysing the procedures required to carry out a Lean implementation successfully.

Last year, Andalusian companies Aceitunas Torrent, Procavi, COVAP and Gandaria collaborated in the first edition of the course by offering internships to all students and, in most cases, resulted in entrance to a professional career linked to this methodology.

This training course is aimed at postgraduate students (ETSIAM and EPS) or graduates of Engineering, Architecture, Economics or Business Administration. Students who successfully pass the course will be able to take paid internships in companies already implementing Lean methodology.
